Roger Thomas’ latest collection for Samuel and Sons is inspired by dreams of Shangri-La.
Roger Thomas is nothing if not focused on historical details, which makes him a natural partner for Samuel & Sons. He is launching his third collection in partnership with the New York specialist in passementerie this month.
“There are places I visit that cause the immediate sensation of being in another world,” he says. “Certain cities and locations transport me with a sense of connection to my imagination: places I visit that seem to me most dreamlike, such as Venice, Seville, and Beijing. These places inspire great flights of creativity.”
For this collection, he imagined another sort of journey, to a legendary destination. “I was inspired as well by the sheer beauty of the techniques of artisanal craft and handwork, and I began drawing the most romantic and timeless effects I could dream,” he says. “Thus, this new collection for Samuel & Sons explores patterns through ethereal, hand-beaded, embroidered silk and linen borders, in a broad palette of sumptuous hues.”
Samuel & Sons President Michael Cohen says Roger is the archetype of “what we look for in a licensee. He is so smart, so intellectually cultured, and his unique sense of color complements what we do in the design studio.”
